A luta pelos ideais que preconizaram uma sociedade mais justa, livre e igualitária, com mais educação e direitos de cidadania, mobilizou muitas mulheres que se organizaram, conspiraram e entregaram a sua vida à causa comum. Com uma acção sobretudo de cariz intelectual, escreveram para jornais da época, lançaram várias publicações, produziram livros e manifestos e fundaram organizações como a Liga Republicana das Mulheres Portuguesas.
Carolina Beatriz Ângelo, médica, Ana de Castro Osório, escritora, Maria Veleda, escritora, e Adelaide Cabete, professora e médica, personificaram, no início do século XX, uma visão avançada e progressista da nossa sociedade, que só havia de ser materializada em pleno passados sessenta e quatro anos, depois do 25 de Abril de 1974.
A República é uma Mulher é um espectáculo idealizado exclusivamente para as Comemorações do Centenário que reúne três grandes mulheres representativas das culturas de expressão lusófona: Lura (Cabo Verde), Carminho (Portugal) e Mart’Nália (Brasil) e participação especial de Carlos do Carmo.

A epidemia que está a afectar o arquipélago é o mote para chamar a atenção, através da música, para este problema.
O concerto vai contar com alguns nomes incontornáveis da música cabo-verdeana: Lura, Bana, Tito Paris, Nancy Vieira, Dani Silva, Titina, mas também com Camané e Vitorino e vai permitir a angariação de fundos para as necessidades mais prementes dos serviços de saúde de Cabo Verde.?Uma iniciativa da OMEC (Organização Médica Cabo-Verdiana).
As presenças “contra a dengue” marcam-se amanhã, dia 17, na Aula Magna, da Reitoria da Universidade de Lisboa, às 21h, com bilhetes à venda no próprio dia.

Event “Culture in Action – how culture can promote development” I. Concept and Format
The event “Culture in Action – how culture can promote development” is taking place on Thursday, October 22nd in the framework of the European Development Days 2009 www.eudevdays.eu
Following the colloquium “Culture and Creativity, Vectors for Development”, organised by the European Commission in Brussels (April 1-3, 2009, www.eudevdays.eu), the event “Culture in Action” will focus on the added value of cultural expressions and activities for development and highlight best practices in the cooperation with partner countries.
The European Commission, a key player in international cultural cooperation, is dedicated to further develop its role in this area in the future. This event aims at taking the opportunity of the variety of the EDD audience to informally debate on the ways to best develop cultural cooperation.
The event will open a space for debate with invited stakeholders from different regions (European Neighbourhood, Latin America, ACP, Asia and Central Asia) and the interested public participating in European Development Days. Participants in EDD comprise professionals of development from a broad range of organisations (governments, donors, NGOs, scholars, etc…)
The event will take the format of a “Talk Show”. Interaction between speakers and between the speakers and the audience are intended to make the debate as lively as possible. Therefore, there will be no speeches but rather responses to question of the moderator and debates.
To make the event even livelier, artists are invited to perform shortly during the event.

O documentário musical “Fados”, do realizador espanhol Carlos Saura, estreou-se no Festival de Cinema do Rio de Janeiro, e a 4 de Outubro nas salas portuguesas.
Viagem ecléctica pelo fado, com um elenco pluricultural que embebe no fado muito das suas raízes, num périplo pelas múltiplas influências musicais que determinaram o destino deste género tão português de expressão, o filme dá novos tons à canção de Lisboa.
Fados é também o resultado de uma série de “embaixadas” que Carlos Saura convocou, delas fazendo nascer reflexões (mais sugeridas que explicadas) sobre os antecedentes culturais e geográficos do fado, assim como coloca esta canção no presente, frente às mais diversas contaminações exteriores.
Em suma Fados é, no plural, o conjunto dos mundos que Saura faz nascer do fado.

This is the highest point in Cape Verde at an altitude of 2829 m.
It is said that those who have not reached the summit of the Volcano have not truly been to Fogo. Lura has been to Fogo!
Fire is one of the 10 islands that form the archipelago of Cape Verde. This is a volcanic island and is the most salient of the group because of the altitude of Pico del Fogo volcano. The volcano has been historically active and last eruption was in 1995. Its most spectacular feature is a crater with 9 km wide. The crater has a slit in its eastern wall, and a large peak amounts to at its centre. The central cone – Peak is the highest point of Island (2 829 m) and its peak is about 100 m higher than the borderer that surrounds the crater. The lava of the volcano has reached the east coast of the island in historic times.
Here we leave a small story of his adventure:
Lura escalou o Vulcão da Ilha do fogo, o ponto mais alto de Cabo Verde com 2829 m de altitude.
Segundo dizem: quem nunca subiu o vulcão nunca foi ao Fogo.
Mas Lura já foi à ilha do Fogo!
